Description
Why change something that works? Felce Aromatica shaving soap refill from Saponificio Varesino is made just as it was in the beginning of the last century, with the help of modern processing techniques. The shaving soap is plodded, extruded, then cut by hand and finally the logo is pressed in. The soap is fragranced with aromatic fern, creating an intense freshness and the male fern extract balances the skin. Pair the shaving soap with matching aftershave balm.
The refill fits into lathering bowls and containers with inner diameter greater than 9 cm (3.55 inch) and with height greater than 2.3 cm (0.91 inch).
Saponificio Varesino was founded in 1945 in Brebbia, near the shores of Lake Maggiore. They have perfected the craft of soap-making through their new processing techniques and continue to produce different soaps and other toiletries. When making Felce Aromatica Beta 4.3, Saponificio Varesino believes in quality and tradition, and in using only the finest natural ingredients. This ensures only the best final product. How to use Saponificio Varesino Refill Felce Aromatica Shaving Soap
Like with every Saponificio Varesino shaving soap, they are triple milled creating a highly concentrated soap with a relatively hard surface. The Felce Aromatica Beta 4.3 is no different.
Their formulations contain active ingredients that, to give their best, need to solubilize and melt. To have the best shave follow these steps:
- Cover the soap surface with a thin layer of hot water for few minutes.
- Wet your shaving brush either by soaking it in a bowl for a few minutes or dripping it into the water. The choice depends on a type of bristles used in your shaving brush. Badger, boar and horse hairs all need to soak in warm water.
- Shake off the excess water and pour the layer of water that bloomed the soap onto the knot.
- Load the brush with soap for about 20-30 seconds and face/bowl lather.
The time it takes to make a lather and quality of it depends on many small things. Your technique, shaving brush and even the hardness of the water in your region so test and observe.

I would rate this soap a 4/5, deducting slightly for the scent, although I like it, but not loving it.
The lather quality is excellent. Very easy to lather and providing a super slick yoghurt consistency lather.
SV soaps are the benchmark I compare all other soaps to. Nothing I´ve tried has yet beat it. Still searching for “the one”. And to me, performance, and especially slickness is most important.
My favourite SV soap is the Cosmo, with the 4.2 formula. I have to admit I didn’t notice much of a difference in performance with this soap and the 4.3 formula.
The postshave feel is also superb. Paired with the aftershave balm I have yet to find a matching shaving experience. Love this soap.
